RGIK Working Groups
Working groups have always been at the core of collaboration and innovation with RGIK. Our Standing Committee itself began as a dedicated working group, united and driven by a shared mission to advance the study of rock glaciers and their kinematics. These smaller, focused groups allow for deeper engagement, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and driving meaningful research forward.
Currently, there are five (5) working groups within the RGIK Community:
Rock Glacier Inventory (RoGI)
This group aims to improve the recommendations and tools for generating standard rock glacier inventories worldwide, ensuring consistency and reliability in data collection and interpretation.
ExCom Coordinators: Yan Hu (primary), Mishelle Wehbe, Francesco Brardinoni
Rock Glacier Velocity (RGV)
This group focuses on the defining requirements, best practice documents, and processing tools for the production of the new ECV associate parameter RGV. We aim to enhance the systematic production and data compilation of long-term velocity time series on rock glaciers, to be used as a climate change indicator.
ExCom Coordinators: Line Rouyet (primary), Cécile Pellet, Diego Cusicanqui
Machine Learning (ML)
This group focuses on exchange experience and defining best practice recommendations to use machine learning for automated inventorying and analysis of the distribution of rock glaciers. The group aims to provide some suggestions on data sources and methods to help users integrate machine learning into their own analyses.
ExCom Coordinators: Ben Robson (primary), Diego Cusicanqui
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
This group is dedicated to fostering EDI principles within the RGIK community, ensuring that diverse voices and perspectives are heard and integrated into our research and initiatives. By fostering an inclusive environment, this group enhances the quality and impact of our work by promoting a variety of perspectives, while ensuring our content is accessible to all.
ExCom Coordinators: Mishelle Wehbe (primary), Line Rouyet
Data Management (DM)
This group is dedicated to establishing and implementing best practices for managing rock glacier data. From policies and procedures to tangible solutions, we will ensure that rock glacier data is properly collected, stored, and shared. The primary goal is to create a centralised and accessible database where RoGI and RGV can be uploaded and maintained.
ExCom Coordinators: Cécile Pellet (primary), Yan Hu, Diego Cusicanqui
Interested in joining a working group or creating a new working group? Either thematic (on a specific rock glacier topic) or regional (within a specific geographic region), please feel free to contact us! For region groups, please contact the corresponding regional representative which can be found under the ExCom team member profiles.
